Destination
weddings have become very popular these days
and having your wedding on the beach is one
great destination idea. The endless horizon
seperating the sea and the sky acts as a beautiful
backdrop for your wedding pictures. Use our
guide to get the perfect beach wedding. |
Movement
Though
it might look cool seeing the couple and their
guests barefoot on the beach, it's not that practical
unless your guest list is on the small side. Walking
on sand can be awkward and older guests may not
feel comfortable doing so. As an alternative,
consider a hut on the beach, where those that
just want to seat and relax can stay. After the
vows, the bride, groom, and photographer can go
down to the sands for those special shots.
Attire
With
your ceremony held on the beach, you'll want to
opt for a dress that is no longer than your ankle
length. Check
our choosing a dress length section for more details.
Since your guests will be barefoot too, it makes
sense to inform them that the event is somewhat
informal.
Timing
Our
weather here in Nigeria is very hot most of the
time and most beaches are wide open without much
tree cover to provide shade. To avoid any heat-related
problems, it is ideal to choose a time when the
heat is not so much. Evening or morning weddings
are nice. Note that when the weather is hot, the
sand gets really hot too making walking on them
unbearable.
Sand
Type
Ensure that the sand type is smooth, some sand
types migth be sharp which might lead to injuries.
In such a case, you and your guests may need to
wear sandals.
Insects.
Visit
the chosen beach before time and ensure that sand
flies and other insects won't be a problem on
that day. Depending on the season and ceremony
time, these insects may become unbearable.
Fees/Permission
Most
beaches are public and you may have to pay a fee
to the local government or some body to use it
for a private function. Ensure all these are sorted
out before the wedding to reduce distractions
on that day.
