| Choosing
your wedding colors is an important part of your
planning. The chosen color scheme sets the tone
for the entire wedding and reception. Though, there
are many factors to consider, note that the wedding
is yours so you should really choose any colour
you want.
1.
Start with what you can't change.
What is the colour of the reception hall or church
(this includes the flooring and walls) if its a
location you can't change. What is your skin or
hair colour? What kind of colours look good on you
depending on your skin colour.
2.
Know the items that will be used to produce the
colour harmony. The items that are used
to create the colour harmony in most cases are:
the bridemaids dresses, groomsmen attires, the floral
arrangements, balloons, the headgears and caps for
family members and guests, the invitation cards,
the wedding cake, tablecloths and napkin. You can
include other items as required.
3.
Know your style. Do you want a pastel harmonious
day or the striking effect of silver? What colours
have you always dreamed of using? Do you have something
spectacular in mind? What colours fit your person?
4.
Choose a color schemes model to follow:
Monochromatic
color scheme
The monochromatic color scheme uses variations in
lightness and saturation of a single color. This
scheme looks clean and elegant. Monochromatic colors
go well together, producing a soothing effect. The
monochromatic scheme is very easy on the eyes, especially
with blue or green hues. You can use it to establish
an overall mood. The primary color can be integrated
with neutral colors such as black, white, or gray.
Analogous
color scheme
The analogous color scheme uses colors that are
adjacent to each other on the color wheel. One color
is used as a dominant color while others are used
to enrich the scheme. The analogous scheme is similar
to the monochromatic one, but offers more nuances.
Complementary
color scheme
The complementary color scheme is made of two colors
that are opposite each other on the color wheel.
This scheme looks best when you put a warm color
against a cool color, for example, red versus green-blue.
The complementary scheme is intrinsically high-contrast.
When
using the complementary scheme, it is important
to choose a dominant color and use its complementary
color for accents. Using one color for the background
(dresses, table clothes, etc) and its complementary
color to highlight important elements (ribbons,
bows, centerpieces), you will get color dominance
combined with sharp color contrast.
5.
Stick to your Budget. No matter how tempted
you may be by a particular colour scheme. if the
price of using these colours on your wedding items
turn out too expensive or above your budget substantially,
let it pass. Be as up-front as possible about your
budget, with your florist/decor professional, cake
designer, caterers and others and be determined
to stick to it. The colours might make the whole
event beautiful, but it is doest make the day.
