| You
just want to show up at a great reception. You want
to minimize the logistics and issues in organizing
the wedding reception. A hotel/restaurant location
might just be the best option. Here is our guide
to ensure the hotel or restaurant get it right.
1.
Timing & Schedules. What else is
on the hotel or restaurant’s schedule on
your wedding day? You don't want to host your
reception at a venue where another event will
take the shine off your special day. Also, don't
forget that you'll need a minimum of two hours
to set up, so make sure you have enough time to
get everything perfect before your guests arrive.
What are the timing conditions for the use of
the venue? Often, there are penalties if your
reception runs over its allotted time. Ask the
venue manager if you will be hurried out after
your time slot, or if it is all right to linger.
This is especially important if you expect your
guests to hang around till it is dark.
2. Space. Is there sufficient
and appropriate space for all the wedding moments
you want? If you are going to dance, check that
there's space for a dance floor. Is there a special
corner for your cake cutting where everybody can
see you? Where will the band set up? What seating
arrangement do you propose?
3. Catering. There most likely
will be an in-house caterer or list of preferred
caterers you must use. Check if you are okay with
their menu and catering quality.
4. Restrooms. Don't forget to
double check that there are sufficient restroom
facilities.
5. Parking. Find out if you can
pay for parking attendants for your guests and
vendors ahead of time. Is the parking space sufficient?
6. Decorating. Some hotels and
restaurants have décor restrictions. Make
sure you know if you can rearrange furniture to
your specifications. And don't forget to ask if
they have pictures from previous receptions improve
your décor ideas.
7. Contract. Make sure you get
a receipt and a written contract form the venue
management reflecting all the items you've discussed.
