| Flat
Pipe Style

Flat
bands offer a linear, understated look. They have
a basic rectangular cross section, with very slightly
rounded edges. Incidentally, many decorated bands
are flat ones by nature.
Pipe
Bands are flat on top and do not have a domed outside
surface. They also feature the "comfort fit"
inside edge.
Comfort
Fit

Comfort-fit
bands are a relative newcomer. They are considerably
heavier and more costly than the other bands. They
have an oval cross section with very smooth rounded
edges, giving them the comfort-fit name. These bands
are also available with a milgrained edge, but you
might have to shop around.
This
is a very popular variation on a half round band,
a bit like two half rounds back to back. The ring
is usually thicker, thereby heftier, and rounded
on the inside for a nice feel. Use caution when
selecting finger size, since this somewhat "slippery"
style will feel and fit you more loosely than other
bands of the same width. Use narrow ring gauges
to measure your finger.
New
technologies make possible to manufacture a seamless
tube that is more compact and flawless. The absence
of porosity yields a mirror smooth surface than
when polished brings out all the beauty that makes
gold a precious metal.
Because
the edges of the inner part of the ring are not
putting pressure on the finger, comfort fit rings
"feel" looser than a traditional half
ring, some people prefer to wear a ring with a snug
fit. If that is the case, comfort fit rings should
be ¼ of a size smaller than a regular ring,
as long as the ring is under 8mm. Rings over 8mm
should always be ordered at least ½ a size
bigger than the measure taken from a standard finger
gauge.
Half-round Style

Half-round
bands offer by far the most traditional look. Domed
or raised in the center, they have a cross section
that is flat on the inside, and rounded on top.
Some half-round bands can have a beaded or "milgrained"
edge for decoration. A half round or standard fit
ring is flat inside. That is the "traditional
fit". Since the edges of the ring are putting
pressure on the flesh, these rings might feel a
little bit tighter than a Comfort Fit Ring.
A
Comfort Fit Ring is beveled inside, in that manner
the edges of the ring are not in direct contact
with the flesh of the finger, resulting in a more
comfortable fit. This might result in the feeling
that the ring feels "looser" in the finger.
